Safe, Professional, Interval Training for Youth

I.M.F.A.S.T. (In Motion Functional Athletic Strength Training) is a comprehensive youth fitness program that is easy to teach and incorporates necessary features to stimulate the successful development of each child’s ability to become fit while also mastering self-control.

The Covid-19 pandemic not only created new health issues, but also underscored existing ones. Specifically, the problem of inactivity and CHILDHOOD OBESITY. With little to no school activities happening, kids are missing out on 7,000 to 10,000 steps a day.  This is adding to the huge decrease in physical activity being constantly created by the convenience that technology has had on increasing computer and phone use, television and video games, and to some extent general life activities.

School age students are becoming more overweight and developing behavior patterns that worsen this already persistent pattern.

I.M.F.A.S.T. has successfully addressed these issues. The result is better physical condition and the knowledge to have a more productive and health-enhancing attitude toward everyday life, for today and for the future.

Our Mission

Improving Student Health and Mobility with Interactive Sport Science and Technology. Along the way, I.M.F.A.S.T. trains and empowers nonprofits to build a team to run the program on their own.  This self-reliance allows these nonprofit partners to offer the I.M.F.A.S.T. program for free or at a dramatically discount rate bringing this program and its benefits to many underprivileged youth.

Monte Nash

Since 1991, I have had a passion to be in the fitness industry. Valuing what was taught to me by my head fooball coach –Tony Severino (Rockhurst High School), I was able to have tremendous success as a personal fitness instructor working with the likes of Rachel Hunter (Sports Illustrated swimsuit model), Eric Dickerson (NFL Hall Of Famer), and even did the Slide video for Reebok. In 1997, I started doing outdoor fitness classes as a way for my clients to better understand why we did what we did. When we would train, I averaged 30-50 clients every Saturday morning at 8:00.

After getting married in 2006, I moved to the Central Coast (Santa Maria, CA) to run the personal training department for Gold’s Gym. Once settled, I started my outdoor conditioning classes again, where I caught the eye of a local football coach. He asked me to do this for the school. I did, and was hired. One of the exercises we would do was weighted sled pulls. I was able to see an immediate change in the development of the still evolving student athlete.

I contacted some friends in Los Angeles, and we were able to come up with the product now known as the Speedsac™. It is an indoor/outdoor variable weight sprint trainer made of low density, pliable material that is safe and convenient to use. We now have a licensing agreement with a company called Sklz which puts us in Big Box retail stores.

Hi my name is Doug Silva and this is my 20th year teaching math in high school.  I was an athlete growing up, playing baseball (6 years) and soccer (10) years.  I played 5 sports in high school but lettered in Football, Wrestling and Golf.  After high school, I continued competing at Cuesta College in wrestling for 2 years and spent 2 years on the Hancock College golf team. During that time I also began my coaching career in football and wrestling.

I graduated from UCLA with a BS in Math in 2001 and immediately started teaching and coaching.  While at UCLA I started working for the National Institute of Health (NIH) in statistics and soon began teaching AP statistics.  I also have a Masters Degree in Education from Concordia University.  I have earned units from 5 other universities with emphasis in education and coaching.  I have coached football (9 years) including head JV, freshman, and varsity defensive coordinator.  I coached wrestling for 21 years including 7 years as a head varsity coach.  I also coached track (2 years) and golf (7 years).  Currently I teach statistics at Santa Maria High school and Hancock College (11 years), and I am the varsity boys golf coach.
